Two Voices of Time
Project Description
This project is an intergenerational residence designed for a couple born in the 1970s and their child born in the 2000s. The clients are industry leaders with a wealth of life experience; they are passionate about photography, music, and travel, and they appreciate a refined, sophisticated lifestyle. They prefer the warm, tactile quality associated with their generation but wish to move away from conservative, dated designs in favor of a home that feels natural, serene, and full of life. Their child, working for a Fortune Global 500 company, is a collector of designer toys (art toys) and an enthusiast of e-sports and contemporary music. With a vibrant and distinct personality, they sought a dedicated space for their hobbies that also offers a sense of domestic tranquility and rejuvenation.
The space utilizes a Light Wabi-Sabi foundation integrated with Eclecticism. Warm, mid-century wood textures run throughout the home, complemented by raw materials such as micro-cement, travertine, rattan, and linen. A trimless (no-main-light) lighting scheme creates a quiet, contemplative atmosphere. In the bedrooms, soft drapery and fabric art are paired with "designer toy" displays, allowing for a spontaneous collision of the two generations' aesthetics. The integrated kitchen and dining area features solid wood furniture and organic curved silhouettes set against textured walls and the interplay of shadows from greenery. Through this casual yet curated mix-and-match style, we have created a dwelling that balances "vintage" texture, trendy individuality, and the natural "smoke and fire" (vibrancy) of daily life.
As the Lead Designer at Shanghai Fansong Space Design Studio, I hold a degree in interior design and bring over a decade of deep industry experience to my practice. My expertise lies in high-end residential full-service design and project delivery. I specialize in “empathy-driven communication” to capture the nuanced lifestyle needs of my clients, maintaining rigorous and meticulous oversight throughout the project lifecycle—from initial requirements analysis and conceptual creation to construction management and soft furnishings. My goal is to create bespoke, high-quality spaces that are as functional as they are soul-stirring.
I have always adhered to the philosophy that “design is a response to the essence of life”. I reject trend-driven formalism and rigid utilitarianism, preferring instead to deeply integrate the user’s lifestyle, emotional needs, and the unique characteristics of the space. I am particularly skilled at finding equilibrium in intergenerational living environments and spaces with diverse aesthetic requirements, ensuring that the design carries the dweller’s personal narrative while maintaining a vanguard expression and humanistic warmth. Throughout my career, through the mastery of materials, lighting, and spatial storytelling, I have delivered numerous flagship projects that balance functional efficiency with aesthetic texture and long-term value, dedicated to restoring a sense of ease and healing to everyday life.
