Avantcha Tea Shop & Cafe
Project Description
Avantcha Tea House & Retail Boutique
Al Quoz, Dubai, UAE | Completed 2024 | 110 sqm
How do you translate decades of tea expertise, sustainable sourcing, and artisanal craftsmanship into a contemporary retail and hospitality experience? For Avantcha, one of the UAE’s most respected premium tea brands, XO Atelier created a destination that redefines the traditional tea house while remaining deeply connected to the rituals and culture of tea.
Designed as Avantcha’s first standalone concept, the project draws inspiration from the purity and restraint of Asian architecture, where simplicity becomes a vehicle for atmosphere, contemplation, and sensory engagement. The interior embraces a monochromatic palette of black and white, creating a striking yet calming environment where every material, texture, and detail is carefully considered. Polished steel, black-stained wood, hand-glazed lava stone, bespoke black ceramic tiles, and hand-dyed linen come together to create a refined composition that feels both timeless and forward-looking.
The spatial concept is centred around a clear architectural gesture: a sculptural diagonal steel divider that subtly separates the retail area from the tea lounge, creating distinct experiences while maintaining visual continuity throughout the space. This intervention introduces depth and layering, allowing guests to move seamlessly between discovery, education, and consumption.
At the heart of the project sits a bespoke polished-steel tea experience table, conceived as an interactive destination where visitors can engage with Avantcha’s extensive tea collection through sight, scent, and touch. Reminiscent of a luxury perfume display, the installation transforms tea selection into an immersive ritual, encouraging curiosity and exploration. Above, a custom hand-dyed linen light sculpture softly illuminates the space, becoming both a visual landmark and a celebration of craftsmanship.
The design intentionally removes unnecessary distractions, allowing Avantcha’s products and expertise to remain the focal point. Bespoke linear shelving systems showcase the brand’s tea collections with gallery-like precision, while carefully integrated lighting enhances the sensory qualities of the products without overpowering the overall experience.
Beyond aesthetics, the project reflects Avantcha’s commitment to sustainability through the use of durable, recyclable, and responsibly sourced materials. Every design decision was guided by longevity, quality, and authenticity.
The result is a contemporary tea destination that bridges tradition and innovation. More than a retail space or tea house, Avantcha offers a new interpretation of tea culture—an immersive environment where architecture, craftsmanship, and sensory experience come together to create a calm and memorable journey into the world of tea.
In an industry often driven by trends, Vera Edith Dieckmann designs with something more enduring in mind: atmosphere, emotion, and the quiet power of craftsmanship. The German-born architect and interior architect, and the founder of Dubai-based XO Atelier, has built a reputation for creating spaces that feel both boldly contemporary and effortlessly timeless — environments where materiality, light, and narrative converge into immersive experiences.
With a career that spans Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, Dieckmann’s international trajectory informs her unmistakable design language. Early experiences within global hospitality brands and renowned design studios shaped her understanding of how architecture can influence mood and memory, while her own studio allowed her to refine a more personal vision — one grounded in precision, bespoke detailing, and a deeply human approach to luxury.
Under her creative direction, XO Atelier has become synonymous with high-concept hospitality and lifestyle interiors across the region. Projects such as the futuristic Avantcha Tea Shop and the sculptural FaceFlex concept reveal her ability to translate brand stories into tangible, spatial journeys — each project characterized by curated materials, custom lighting, and a strong sense of narrative cohesion. Her work has earned international recognition, including a place in Architectural Digest Middle East’s AD100 2025, cementing her position among the region’s most influential design voices.
For Dieckmann, luxury is never ornamental; it is experiential. It lives in the tactility of surfaces, the warmth of light, and the choreography of movement through space. Through XO Atelier, she continues to craft environments that invite people not merely to observe design, but to inhabit it — spaces where elegance feels effortless and every detail carries intention.
