Gusu IP Creative Industry Park

A urban renewal project in Suzhou, China, covering an area of 6080m ², with a design scope covering the entire block. The original hardware wholesale market was renovated and delivered for operation as a creative industry park. Become the residence of artists and brand design enterprises.
Gusu is the city with the most cultural heritage in China, adhering to the concept of local design. The project is adjacent to the famous "old market" in Old Suzhou. This discovery also inspired design inspiration. Can we use a form of showcasing traditional Chinese painting art to give language to this building and strive to combine modernist sentiment with the local customs and traditions of Suzhou.
In Chinese painting, ink and wash paintings are usually long scrolls, using black, white, and gray to create various artistic images. In traditional Chinese and modernist architectural design, there are many elements that are shared, such as geometric shapes, black edges, emphasis on concave convex relationships, and color contrast. The design focus is mainly reflected in the emphasis and highlighting of the windows in the building. These rectangular shapes are like many horizontal scrolls filled with Chinese painting hanging on a white wall. There is no content in the scrolls, but stories happen in each window, making this painting depict the various aspects of life. The bottom layer uses the most smoky red bricks, the most memorable of old objects, and a combination of materials with retro and recognizable features, distinguishing it from the elegant upstairs design, allowing for a dialogue between the old and new. And I hope this can become the future direction of modern architecture in Suzhou.
