Project Description

Project Name: Yuanshe (Meta House)
Location: Wuhan, China
Client: Freelancer
Design Team: Lead Designer - Jia Guangsheng
Design Theme: "Song Rhyme Reimagined · Warm Autumn Elegance"
The serene beauty of crackled glaze embodies the Eastern tranquility rooted in the minimalist, elegant, and natural philosophy cherished by Song Dynasty literati. Reinterpreted through contemporary design language, the space eschews overt symbolism, opting instead for a clean layout, refined lines, natural materials, and a carefully balanced warm palette to craft a modern residence that flows with poetic rhythm—culturally rich, inviting, and deeply harmonious.
I. Design Philosophy
Quality ≠ Ostentatious Excess
Uniqueness ≠ Deliberate Eccentricity
Harmony ≠ Rigid Symmetry
Inspired by the Song Dynasty’s minimalist, refined, and nature-centric aesthetics, this design eliminates ornate embellishments, pursuing the art of negative space and the beauty of restrained forms. It boldly integrates the modern Maillard Color Palette, calibrated through the Munsell system to ensure brown tones fall within a 10-20% reflectance range—achieving a "luxurious yet glare-free" visual comfort. Amid urban clamor, it carves out "a breathable poetic sanctuary."
II. Design Elements
1. Spatial Ambience: Clean Simplicity, Flowing Rhythm
Adhering to the Song Dynasty’s minimalist ethos, the layout employs semi-open zones to enhance transparency and fluidity. Furniture and structural lines draw from Song-style craftsmanship—crisp and dignified, blending straight lines with subtle curves. Superfluous decor is discarded to highlight structural integrity. Walls and floors in low-saturation Maillard hues establish a tranquil, soothing foundation, mirroring the ethereal emptiness of Song Dynasty paintings.
2. Color System: Maillard Warmth, Song Essence Elevated
The Maillard palette anchors the visual narrative:
Rich caramel browns and chestnut ground key furniture and accent walls, exuding warmth and depth.
Oatmeal beige and creamy whites dominate walls, ceilings, and soft furnishings, balancing depth with brightness—echoing Song’s understated elegance.
Maple red and autumn orange punctuate like seasonal brushstrokes, adding vibrancy and layering. Their warmth aligns seamlessly with Song aesthetics’ pursuit of "gentle refinement." This interplay mirrors the subtle gradations of Song monochrome ceramics—reserved yet nuanced, crafting an autumnal ambiance that is warm, inclusive, and culturally profound.
3. Material Texture: Natural Humility, Tactile Warmth
Solid wood dominates, its grain celebrated through matte finishes that reject excessive polish.
Furniture emphasizes clean silhouettes, with joinery details highlighting precision and fluidity.
Micro-concrete and honed stone introduce raw textures, enriching the space with rustic authenticity.
Epilogue
This design traces back to the Song Dynasty’s philosophical core—"embracing nature’s way." It reinterprets classical elegance through modernity, weaving understated beauty into quiet simplicity. Beyond materialism, it advocates a lifestyle that cherishes spiritual fulfillment—resonating deeply with Japan’s wabi-sabi ideals.
