WYNDHAM SUN MOON LAKE
Project Description
The hotel stands in a scenic area with numerous hotels and guesthouses. Therefore, the focus of the lighting design aims to enhance the spatial experiences of guests. This project encompasses three levels of the hotel's public areas, including various spaces such as the lobby, restaurant, bar, and changing room. Distinct lighting layouts are developed based on the functions of each space.
In the nine-meter-high lobby, custom pendant lights draw inspiration from the culture of the indigenous people of Sun Moon Lake. The oval cove lighting is programmed to change colors slowly on the hour, evoking the stunning sunsets of the lake and enhancing the hotel's first impression. Adjacent to the reception area, the lounge bar is designed to provide a sense of privacy and tranquility; thus, the horizontal illuminance is intentionally reduced. Meanwhile, the indirect lighting of the display cabinet and bar counter elevates the vertical illuminance in the space, creating a visual focus for guests. At the end of the lobby corridor is a stylish Chinese restaurant, where the contrast of lighting is intensified to echo the dark tones of the interior design, making the food appear more appetizing.
Down to the ground floor, there is an all-day-dining restaurant, a multifunction room, and a banquet hall. Due to the sloped terrain, this level has very few windows. To minimize the sense of enclosure in the all-day-dining restaurant, the cove lighting is in tune with the circadian rhythm. This lighting creates a connection between the interior and exterior spaces. The banquet hall is divided into three separate rooms, each equipped with movable partitions. The lighting in each room can be controlled individually, or all three rooms can be managed together. The RGB linear lights provide ambient illumination, while adjustable track lights with narrow beam angles deliver horizontal lux levels. To accommodate various activities, different lighting scenarios are established, including options for wedding parties, seminars, press conferences, etc.
The sports bar is located on the third floor. The cove lighting for the ceiling and the curved wall highlights the texture of the materials. Track spotlights are installed in this space, utilizing wide beam angles for the bar counter and narrow beam angles for the game tables. The sloped corridor leads to the changing room which has a brighter tone overall. It is important to maintain appropriate horizontal and vertical lux levels to ensure that guests can move safely and dress without difficulty.
J.Y. Lighting Design was established in 1999. We’ve accomplished more than 300 projects, the design scope includes urban lighting planning, architectural façade lighting, landscape lighting and interior lighting. James Yuan became member IALD and obtained the professional membership later. His contribution on lighting design is highly recognized.
There are three main elements in our design guideline: new technology, environment and human beings. We always try to consider our design from different point of views and popularize the knowledge of lighting. The popularization of lighting knowledge may attract people’s attention on lighting and be more attentive to their lighting environment.
