The overall layout of Putuo Temple can be summarized as "one axis, three courtyards", one axis refers to the building arranged along an axis, layer by layer, the building floor is raised, the building is quite spectacular, the three courtyards refer to the courtyard set up according to the main building function of the main axis, the courtyards are located in front of the Kaitang Hall, the main hall and the mountain gate, the opening and closing are measured, the courtyard in front of the mountain gate is surrounded by vegetation, and you can see the deep feeling of Garan, the courtyard in front of the hall is up the stairs on the central axis, and gradually shows the magnificent figure of the building from the iris, making the viewer solemn and solemn. Meditation and enlightenment, the front half of the courtyard in front of the Tang Hall is a metaphor for the water surface of the Seven Treasures Lotus Pond in the Pure Land World, and the courtyard space on the higher floor behind the pool symbolizes the improvement of cultivation, roundness and unhindered, and the temple architectural space pursues simplicity, elegance, purity and undisputed.
Putuo Temple architectural style comes from the Tang style and Song bones, integrating the essence of architectural design of the two best periods in ancient Chinese architectural history, the building materials are tall, the eaves are far-reaching, the wooden structure uses the ancient wooden structure mechanical wisdom such as mortise and tenon, dou yu and Xiaang, so that the structural rigor and plastic art have been unified, the bucket is comfortable, supporting the towering roof, the roof bending curve is soft, rich in streamlining, beautiful to the extreme, and the mountain landscape complements each other, the corner beam head hangs the shape of the copper duo, the sound is crisp and pleasant, Every grass and tree is full of Zen.
The mountain gate is a pavilion type, and the middle gate is a three-room style, symbolizing the three methods of Buddhist liberation and nirvana; "Emptiness", "Phaselessness", and "Wishlessness", referring to many Tang and Song Dynasty mountain gates, are designed as this tall and majestic mountain gate, which makes people look out for difference from other temples.
The main hall refers to the main hall architecture of the Pure Land world of the Amitabha Sutra in the Dunhuang murals, and the Tang Dynasty building Tangzhaoti Temple Golden Hall, and then designed as such a simple and detached temple-like building.
The Kaitang Hall is inspired by the Dunhuang mural in the Tiangong, the pavilion, corner tower and the shape of the east and west halls are derived from this, the building shape is complex, the corridors are connected, all the buildings are not painted with color, but expose the beautiful wood grain, showing the simplicity, ingenuity, Zen beauty of the wooden structure itself.
