A contemporary penthouse located in Antwerp, Belgium overlooking the river Scheldt, where refined materials and bespoke detailing shape a warm and timeless living environment.
The design was conceived as a calm architectural retreat above the city, balancing openness, natural textures and understated elegance throughout the interior.
A rich palette of carefully selected materials defines the atmosphere of the apartment. Eucalyptus veneer was used extensively for the bespoke furniture, including the kitchen, dressing rooms, wall cladding, bedroom cabinetry and integrated storage solutions, creating a strong sense of continuity across the entire penthouse. The warm character of the wood is contrasted by the softness of travertine natural stone, introduced in the kitchen, bathrooms and as sculptural accents surrounding the fireplace.
Large windows overlooking the Scheldt allow natural light to move through the interior during the day, enhancing the subtle textures and tonal materials used throughout the space. Every element was designed in dialogue with the architecture, resulting in an interior that feels both sophisticated and effortless.
MORE carefully curated every aspect of the interior, from the furniture selection to the decorative lighting, ensuring a complete and cohesive final result. This integrated design approach allows the studio to create spaces where architecture, materials and atmosphere feel fully connected. The walls throughout the penthouse were finished with a textured paint technique, adding softness and depth to the architectural surfaces while creating a warm and tactile atmosphere.
A custom-made green mortar microtopping dining table was developed specifically for the project, becoming one of the subtle focal points within the living area. Bespoke detailing can be found throughout the apartment, from integrated handles and custom natural stone ledges to carefully concealed storage solutions that preserve the calm architectural language of the interior. For the flooring, extra-wide 26 cm parquet planks were selected to create a balance between elegance and a strong architectural presence. Subtle indirect LED lighting was integrated throughout the penthouse to enhance the atmosphere in a discreet and understated manner, allowing materials and textures to remain at the forefront of the experience. The true eye-catcher of the residence is the sculptural spiral staircase, whose organic form introduces movement and identity into the heart of the penthouse. More than a functional element, the staircase acts as an architectural sculpture connecting the different levels of the home.
What defines the project most is MORE’s integrated design & build methodology ,not only designing the entire penthouse, but also carefully overseeing and executing the project while respecting the client’s budget. This close involvement from concept to completion ensured that the final realised space remained remarkably faithful to the original design vision.
