Interior Remodel for Busaiteen Villa

Located in Muharraq, this family villa remodel reimagines a house originally built in 2001 into a refined and characterful residence that balances contemporary luxury with warmth and livability. Designed by Mohamed Alqari, founder of Qreative Design Studio, the project reflects a thoughtful approach to transformation, where the existing structure is carefully elevated rather than replaced.
The design process was driven by a deep understanding of the family’s lifestyle and aspirations. The aim was to create a home that feels curated and experiential—almost like a small boutique hotel—while remaining highly functional for everyday living. This vision informed both the spatial planning and the layered interior language, resulting in an environment that is elegant, inviting, and deeply personal.
The scope of the project included the complete remodeling of the first floor, as well as the addition of a new second floor. This new level overlooks the floor below through a dramatic double-height conservatory, establishing a strong visual and spatial connection between the different areas of the home. Conceived as a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Bahraini hosh (courtyard), this central space allows natural light to penetrate deep into the interior while fostering a sense of openness and connection between family members across floors.
A key aspect of the design was the strategic reutilization of underused areas within the existing structure. A previously unused terrace was transformed into the double-height conservatory, which now acts as the architectural and social heart of the home. This intervention not only enhances the spatial experience but also improves the quality of light and circulation throughout the villa.
The interiors are defined by a rich layering of materials, textures, and carefully curated elements. Bespoke furniture, antique pieces, and refined finishes are combined to create spaces that feel collected over time rather than staged. Floral motifs, soft textiles, and sculptural lighting contribute to an atmosphere that is both timeless and expressive, while maintaining a sense of comfort and familiarity.
Each space within the home was thoughtfully tailored to reflect the personalities of its occupants, resulting in a design that is both cohesive and highly individualized. Despite the level of detail and transformation, the project was executed while the family continued living in the villa, requiring careful coordination and a sensitive approach to construction.
Ultimately, the project demonstrates how an existing home can be reimagined through strategic spatial interventions and a strong design narrative. The result is a residence that feels elegant, intimate, and deeply connected to both its occupants and its cultural context—an environment where architecture, design, and everyday life come together seamlessly.
