Digital Realty Singapore Office
Project Description
Design Concept: Shapes and Shades
The Digital Realty Singapore office presents a contemporary, future focused workplace shaped by the design concept “Shapes and Shades.” The concept explores the evolution of form, spatial flow, and tonal layering to create an environment that balances structure, contrast, and calm. A restrained monochromatic palette forms the foundation of the design, enriched with graphite finishes, deep charcoal accents, and darker architectural frames that act as visual anchors throughout the workspace. These elements introduce a refined, futuristic character that subtly reflects the technological infrastructure and digital ecosystem at the core of Digital Realty’s global presence.
To balance the darker architectural framework, soft neutral textures, warm timber finishes, and touches of greenery are introduced to create warmth and tactility. The interplay between these materials forms a layered spatial experience that feels both grounded and progressive, encouraging comfort while maintaining a contemporary corporate identity.
The workplace layout is carefully planned to support both openness and privacy. Vertical timber dividers define zones for the acquisitions team and meeting areas while maintaining visual continuity across the office. Open collaboration spaces are integrated with quieter zones to allow focused discussions when needed. Dedicated phone booths and flexible hot desking stations further enhance adaptability, supporting different work styles and optimizing the use of space.
Transformation is expressed through repeating geometric forms across joinery, lighting, and furniture details, reinforcing the Shapes and Shades concept. Rather than relying on overt branding, the office reflects Digital Realty’s identity through refined materials, subtle color accents, and thoughtful spatial planning. The result is a sophisticated and adaptable workplace that supports evolving collaboration while embodying a forward looking technological vision.
From the users’ perspective, the greatest need was a workspace that reflects Digital Realty’s brand identity, dominated by dark tones, while remaining bright, comfortable, and functional. The design addresses this through a restrained monochromatic palette with carefully placed accents that add interest without overwhelming the space. Warm timber finishes, subtle highlights, and thoughtful lighting create an open, inviting environment that balances brand expression with usability. Clearly defined zones support focused work, collaboration, and flexibility. Users appreciated that the office feels professional and cohesive with the company’s identity while enhancing comfort, productivity, and the overall work experience.
The project embraces sustainability by integrating environmental, social, and governance principles throughout the design. Environmentally, energy-efficient lighting, natural ventilation, and timber finishes reduce resource use while supporting a healthy workplace. Socially, flexible zones, collaborative areas, and comfortable spaces enhance employee well-being and engagement. From a governance perspective, design choices prioritize durability, adaptability, and long-term functionality, ensuring the office remains relevant as business needs evolve. By embedding these ESG strategies, the workspace promotes operational resilience, accountability, and a positive impact on both people and the environment. The result is a forward-looking office that supports performance, sustainability, and responsibility.
Inspiration
The inspiration behind this project comes from Digital Realty’s vision to create a workspace that reflects its technological expertise while prioritizing human experience. Guided by the “Shapes and Shades” concept, the design explores form, tonal layering, and spatial flow to create a visually engaging, balanced environment. Users are positively engaged through flexible zones, collaborative areas, and comfortable, stimulating spaces that enhance productivity and well-being. By combining innovative geometric detailing, biophilic elements, and a thoughtful material palette, the project sets a new standard for the industry, promoting adaptable, sustainable, and user-focused workplace design that encourages engagement, efficiency, and care.
