Johnny’s+Apartment

by Baptiste Bohu

Project Description

It is a set of 300 square meter large flat floors in the center of Shanghai, with a minimalist style.A perfectly designed room is not only meant to please the eyes, but your skin should also experience some satisfaction. Our sense of touch will provide corresponding feedback, such as walking on the carpet, we can experience the texture of plush; We can tell if the seats are comfortable in just a few seconds. When we enter a room, our bodies can feel the differences in materials. A textured space is more calming than a bright and spacious room.
Carefully designed and created spaces always look beautiful, so do they also give people a comfortable feeling? In addition to pursuing visual aesthetics, designers also carefully select materials to enhance comfort through texture and finishes, emphasizing the interaction between residents and the surrounding environment. Choosing between hardwood flooring, soft carpets, or fabric for sofas can have an important impact on a person's tactile experience. Soft materials are more suitable for creating peaceful spaces, while the hard and smooth finish makes people feel cold and hard. Grasping the balance between softness and hardness, roughness and softness can ensure a relaxing effect.
Decorative elements that emphasize touch will create a natural and pure flavor, while also avoiding creating an artificial impression. A beautifully decorated room is certainly beautiful, but we are not just standing and admiring the space. We will sit and lie down, and the most intuitive feeling for our skin is the texture. The texture can be soft or rough, hard or agile, smooth or uneven. The texture elements in interior design are meant to create tactile 'moments'.
Textures also create visual effects: sturdy gypsum walls look textured. There is no decorative surface, no acrylic, no artificial elements, which has played a significant role in the revival of gypsum materials today. Of course, the use of gypsum walls is not new. Its traces can be seen in the tombs of ancient Egypt. Later, it was also used in the construction of the ancient Roman Empire, the ancient city of Pompeii, the Millennium Aqueduct in Segovia, Spain and other projects. In the 15th century, a type of "Venetian marmorino" made of marble fragments and lime putty was introduced and spread throughout the walls of buildings in Italy and other places.
