Amid the deep integration of digital transformation and the experience economy, the "Breakthrough" experiment at the Shanghai Rheinland TÜV InnoHub has partnered with TÜV Rheinland to establish InnoHub. This initiative aims to infuse innovation into areas such as smart cockpits, human-machine interaction, display technology, the acoustic ecosystem, and pet-friendly environments, thereby defining new paradigms for the future of travel and lifestyle.
In this collaboration with the TÜV Rheinland Group, RDP served as the design and construction partner for the TÜV Rheinland Shanghai InnoHub laboratory. By leveraging the laboratory space as a medium, we addressed the conflicting challenges of "high-sensitivity functionalities" and "brand visibility" through systematic solutions. This approach established a super laboratory environment that balances technical credibility with strong brand recognition, achieving breakthroughs in core design difficulties and enabling dynamic multi-disciplinary integration. Throughout the space creation, the design consistently applied principles of technology, professionalism, safety, minimalism, functionality, sustainability, and international standards to every detail and corner. This resulted in a human-centric, flexible space that fosters a transparent and open collaborative atmosphere, while seamlessly integrating smart technologies with brand culture.
The spatial design of the laboratory deeply integrates TÜV Rheinland's three core genes through visual elements, functional zoning, and interactive touchpoints, transforming the technical logic of testing and certification into a perceptible spatial narrative system. This achieves the brand objective of "entering inspires trust." Guided by the principle of "making functions explicit," the entire space employs matte aluminum panels (finished with an anodizing process) and ultra-white painted glass as the primary materials. These material choices enhance the laboratory's sense of technical precision and rational aesthetics. A dialogue is created between the coolness of the metal and the warm reflections of the painted glass, imbuing the space with a dynamic and ever-shifting aesthetic perception. The laboratory partitions utilize dual-mode privacy glass to enable seamless switching between different scenarios. In Privacy Mode (frosted state): the glass frosts over within seconds during sensitive experimental operations, blocking external distractions. In Presentation Mode (transparent state): the glass instantly becomes clear, showcasing the ongoing experiments. This not only provides the visual appeal of an open interface but also creates a framework infused with a modern, technological ambiance. In terms of color tone, the design team adopted a rational narrative of white and blue. The "absolute purity" of the white painted glass is paired with the geometric accents of Rhine Blue (VI), enhancing the dynamic balance of the space and echoing the tone of scientific exploration and the future. This understated, pure approach adds the necessary solemn atmosphere befitting a laboratory. The user research laboratory is equipped with a range of advanced facilities, including indoor and outdoor lighting simulators and motion capture cameras. These enable the flexible construction and realization of various scenarios, achieving a rational integration of space and products. Adhering to the principle of prioritizing function, this area minimizes spatial interference with experiments. It features dark matte walls and automated darkening shades, creating an immersive and professional darkroom environment. The pet-friendly research lab simulates a real household setting to craft a living space for pets. Wood materials are used to align with the overall project ambiance, creating a tranquil and warm atmosphere. Elements of vibrancy are also incorporated to establish interactive connections between the space, humans, and pets.
