TianShangCunQian Zhongshuge bookstore, WuXi
Project Description
The project is situated in the historically and culturally significant district of TianShangCunQian Zhongshuge bookstore, WuXi, an area that holds a vital role in the evolution of modern education in Wuxi and throughout China, which is often referred to as "the cradle of modern rural education in China".
This area has been home to many distinguished scientists and educators, notably the Hu family, whose contributions have notably influenced the advancement of modern academic education in the country. The interior design of the Zhongshuge Bookstore seeks to convey and celebrate the rich history and culture of this region, along with its enduring academic legacy, through a modern design approach.
A key feature of the interior space is the intense use of geometric elements. This design choice not only pays tribute to the rational spirit embodied by figures like the Hu family but also establishes a sense of order and visual harmony.
Bookshelves are neatly arranged along both sides of the space, enhancing the efficiency of space utilization and imparting a dignified ambiance resembling a temple. Coupled with the cantilevered structure, this arrangement fosters an upward spatial dynamic, symbolizing the relentless quest of the mankind for knowledge and advancement.
Moreover, the striking yellow spiral staircase serves as the central visual element of the space, drawing immediate attention. Its design further accentuates the verticality of the interior and alleviates the monotony of the flat layout. The vibrant yellow hue creates a bold contrast against the darker backdrop, invigorating the overall atmosphere and counteracting the potential dullness associated with the darker elements of the space.
