The rationality of the curved line Neo neoclassicism

by Icona Architetti Associati

Project Description

In the heart of Milan in via Eustachi, near Corso Buenos Aires, Icona Architetti Associati has recently completed the progressive modernization process of an apartment in a 1930s building, with a rationalist flavour. An apartment that, become over the years from an occasional pied-à-terre a habitual residence, required a long, progressive adaptation to new needs. The scenario has been revolutionized, deconstructing and reorganizing the original floor plan, conditioned, above all, by the presence of a long corridor, which, creatively recoded, strategically separated in two independent segments, has acquired a new function and distinct expressiveness. Iconic arched openings connect it to the large, bright living area, resulting from the union of the old living room with the kitchen, complementing it as a scenographic exhibition space for pieces of art and design. The use of the curved line, a tribute to the neoclassical aesthetics and the rational use of the arch, with reference to some elements of the building's entrance hall, expresses, in combination with a limited material palette, wood and marble, the stylistic code adopted by Icona. Refinement and harmony, rhythms marked by the sinuosity of arches, niches and organic curved lines, connote the atmosphere.
