Scandinavian architecture is celebrated for its minimalist design aesthetic that emphasizes natural materials such as local stone and wood, while shunning extravagant ornamentation in favor of meticulous attention to details. Inspired by this ethos, a renovation project in an old seaside villa seated in a Chinese coastal city has been undertaken. Given the villa's analogous coastal climate to that of the Nordic region, the project has embraced Scandinavian influences to create a contemporary living space. By incorporating natural lighting and utilizing eco-friendly materials like marble and wood, the project seeks to minimize environmental impact while crafting a serene and idyllic home for the residents.
The new villa eschews traditional partitions, opting for structural circulation to seamlessly integrate residents with their surroundings and nature. The basement serves as the primary living area, enhanced by a central spiral staircase that adds depth and dimension to the space. On the first floor, an expansive dining area features large windows and wooden elements, complemented by an exterior garden, fostering an inviting atmosphere that blends indoors with nature. The main lounge area on the second floor utilizes cabinets and soft furnishings to create a comfortable and well-organized space. Three-sided windows maximize natural light, imbuing the room with a sense of openness and breathability. Throughout the villa, soft and natural color palettes are employed to establish a cohesive, warm, and minimalist ambiance.
The villa is surrounded by greenery and boasts a private garden courtyard ideal for lounging, while the interior adopts natural stone and wooden chairs. This creates a seamless connection that shows a dedication to harmonious coexistence with nature and sustainable development. With its straightforward structure and organized circulation, the Scandinavia cultivates an understated yet serene ambiance, reflecting the homeowners' distinctive lifestyle.
