NAGAHAMA COFFEE Akita Airport
We designed a café for the departure lobby of Akita Airport, located in the Tohoku region of Japan. Inspired by the lively, authentic cafes in old railroad stations where passengers can relax in an instant before departing, we tried to create a cozy structure while using a high counter and high stools to create a lively atmosphere. The coloring based on orange, the café's corporate color, evokes a destination that lightens the heart for travel, and the warmth of the space also evokes nostalgia for traveling to the country where the coffee beans are produced. The large analog clock is a landmark suitable for meeting and photo spots. A series of arched windows reminiscent of station house windows creates a nostalgic atmosphere. Material coordination is classic with burgundy leather bench seats, Bianco Carrara counters, walnut wood, green and orange leather, and terrazzo and packet flooring.
Ribbed glass on the iconic brass mirrored frames creates a moiré effect in the lighting, and
opal glass shaded street lamps and pendants light up the airport ambiance.
