MANSION ORIENTAL

by WSD

Project Description

From Nanjing, "Jiangnan beautiful land, Jinling Emperor State" the grand imperial charm of the emperor, to the Qinhuai River, "long dry extended belong, fly 甍, its home is high gate Ding GUI, the bank of the hero" the circle of reappearance, and then to the Song Dynasty literati "Ru Lin Hua country ancient and modern, chanting Fei hao wake drunk" life portrayal. With the progress of the design, Jinling humanistic art, elegant life, tracing to the poetic dwelling of the ancient capital of China, combined with the core concept of "east border and west rhyme", customized "all things through the ages, condensing in one room" exclusive to the contemporary new rich extremely luxurious life circle.
The whole mansion garden with "two axes four double environment, four into ten return garden" to form "mansion, lane, courtyard" three-level ritual system, from the "lane" into the "courtyard", open a bronze carved door, fashionable and ancient coexistence between opening and closing. The artistic sculpture on the screen wall is painted with the intangible heritage technology "Daqi", and the mountain valleys in Nanjing are hand-hammered, which has the grand charm of "the big valleys turn with the steps and the mountains climb into the household".
"Sell Jinling wine, song blowing Sun Chu Lou." Through thousands of years of time, see the fading lights under the city of Lin 'an, the ultimate elegance of the Song Dynasty, in this "mansion". The wall ceiling structure of classic European buildings is translated in a minimalist way, the ultra-scale Prada green arch is rich in luxury and classical qualities, and the streamlined crystal chandelier is hanging down, like the shadow of the Qin Huai River. Looking at the old beauty of Jinling, the night falls in this elegant spirit of private land, open a flowing feast.
By optimizing and adjusting the original structure of the building, the sunken banquet hall not only expands the spatial scale but also introduces the natural scenery of the courtyard into the interior. The spatial moving lines are scattered through the rich combination of layers, and a painting of Pine Crane becomes the focus of vision. With motherlay, gold, silver, copper and other metals after lacquer grinding painting, combined with inch inch inch gold brocade brocade brocade brocade light and dark interwoven pattern, the literati's character in a more avant-garde fashion presented.
Surrounded by landscape marble into the "theater center", the velvet texture of the symmetrical layout of the brown curtain makes the space solemn, the delicate golden brown sofa through the modern feelings of New York in the 1930s, the medieval single chair decorated with luxurious cloud brocade into a retro and elegant face, the ultimate polish of the space by the surface and point, only this prosperous tonight Hua banquet does not spread the new atmosphere of Jinling.
The fireplace in the living room is not only functional, but also artistic. The customized fireplace background according to the spatial scale integrates the language of the building and the Chinese philosophical thinking of "Song is sentient", so that the space has a sense of sculpture and creates a delicate and exquisite Oriental artistic conception.
At the beginning of the design of the overall project, the link with nature was fully considered. The original guest restaurant was not smooth and lacked interaction with the landscape. After the renovation, the guest restaurant was connected with the inner courtyard, forming a circular moving line and looking at the inside and outside. The verandas are connected and encircle the courtyard, and the boundaries between inside and outside become more transparent, and the four hours are everyday.
The project is located in Nanjing, with its architecture replicating the courtyard and alley style of the old southern city. It is structured around "Two Axes, Four Realms, and Ten Gardens," forming a hierarchical system of "Mansion, Alley, and Courtyard." The interior design incorporates classical Nanjing garden techniques such as "one step, one scene," "borrowed scenery," and "framed scenery," ensuring that almost all spaces across the four levels are connected to or overlook the landscape.
The space extensively utilizes intangible cultural heritage for creative purposes. For example, the banquet hall on the underground second floor features a large lacquer screen inspired by the Qing Dynasty painting "Pine and Crane." This screen is created using the intangible cultural heritage technique of lacquer art, incorporating materials like mother-of-pearl, gold, silver, and copper, which are polished and painted. The design also integrates the weaving technique of Yunjin brocade, known for its intricate patterns, blending traditional literati aesthetics with a modern, avant-garde approach.
Modern Chinese living demands extend beyond mere habitation to include social needs. This project integrates functions such as business meetings and social entertainment into its design. It also thoughtfully addresses the social needs of female family members by dedicating an entire floor to spaces like a meditation room, gym, and tea salon, creating a diverse living environment.
From the beginning of the project's design, a strong connection to nature was carefully considered. Originally, the layout featured only one courtyard. By reconfiguring the main entrance, altering the original functional spatial arrangement, and optimizing the circulation flow, the design expanded the single courtyard into three courtyards, ensuring that every space is seamlessly linked to the natural landscape. For example, in the original layout, the living and dining areas had poor circulation and lacked interaction with the surrounding scenery. After the redesign, the living room was connected to both the inner and outer courtyards, while the dining area was linked to the inner courtyard, creating a circular flow and a design that allows for visual and spatial harmony between indoor and outdoor spaces. The interconnected corridors and the embracing courtyards make the boundaries between inside and outside more permeable, truly achieving a living experience that is "walkable, livable, viewable, and enjoyable."
