House in NISHIOGI

by Shinya Masuda

Project Description

This is a renovation plan for a detached house for a family of four.
The client's request for this renovation was to improve the insulation and rainproofing performance.
The room environment tends to be closed off because a stronger membrane is applied to the outside world, so we needed to find a way to give it a sense of spaciousness, lightness, and brightness.
After sorting out these requests, we proposed a large folding screen-like fixture for this plan.
This fixture, which exists in a room unified with the same color scheme of white and wood, is minimalist in itself, but it has a presence like a painting that colors the space.
By stretching from wall to wall and floor to ceiling, it is not as casual as a curtain, but it evokes the feeling of a space that continues beyond it, lightly dividing the space. At the same time, it also serves as a back screen on which furniture, lighting, and other daily furnishings are placed, and it accepts the life of the family.
The space should be a stage for life. In other words, the elements that make up a building should contribute as one element in creating a place for living.
The fittings proposed this time have a symbolic yet universal shape. Rather than adding a distorted and foreign element to the space, we carefully designed elements that are casually universal and familiar, and were able to create a comfortable space that embraces life.
