Chang Gung University Renovation of the public space

by ICA Architecture + Interior Design

Project Description

Inspired by the philosophy of “Extensive Learning, Shared Living, and Harmonious Community,” the project reimagines the dormitory as a new-generation shared living space—renamed the Boshuli Living University Garden. It transforms a dated and fragmented facility into a dynamic environment that integrates learning, living, and connection.
Guided by the principles of co-learning, co-sharing, co-creation, and mutual growth, the design revitalizes the existing building through spatial reorganization, circulation clarity, and landscape renewal. Open communal zones, flexible “Learning Boxes,” and transparent façades introduce natural light and visual continuity, creating opportunities for spontaneous encounters and interdisciplinary exchange.
Natural materials, sustainable systems, and carefully balanced spatial scales enhance comfort, durability, and a sense of belonging. Each area—from social lounges to quiet study corners—is designed to support both collaboration and introspection, fostering a community that values both individuality and shared experience.
Rooted in the vision of holistic education, this renovation transcends functional improvement. It redefines the dormitory as a living-learning ecosystem that cultivates creativity, empathy, and engagement—establishing Chang Gung University as a pioneering model for the future of campus living environments.
