Arcade Reverie· An Ode to Terracotta — BROWNSTONE VIEW Sky Garden Restaurant

Atop the colossal silos of the former Shanghai Cement Factory on Xuhui Riverside, BROWNSTONE VIEW Sky Garden Restaurant transcends the notion of a dining venue—it is an elevated landmark where urban memory converges with natural poetry. Leveraging the site’s highest vantage point, the design unveils a 360-degree panoramic view, seamlessly integrating the Huangpu River and Shanghai’s skyline.
Inspired by the architectural spirit of southern Spain and the romantic essence of the Mediterranean, the space centers on the design vocabulary of “arches” and “terracotta.” Through a contemporary lens, it reinterprets the fusion of Christian, Islamic, and local influences in traditional Spanish architecture. The warm brick-red palette and textured terracotta-toned finishes echo the earth’s natural warmth, while arched structures guide the flow of light and shadow, evoking the gentle rhythm of sunlight filtering through Andalusian arcades. Floor-to-ceiling folding doors dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior, revealing a secret Mediterranean garden of olive trees, lavender, and aromatic herbs. A soft breeze carries the scent of river and greenery, transforming dining into a multi-sensory immersion.
The central bar serves as the visual and social heart, where warm bronze contrasts subtly with terracotta red, and translucent stone wine racks diffuse light into layered, poetic glows. From conceptual design to material innovation, and from artistic collaboration to meticulous execution, the team works closely with international galleries and master artisans to ensure every detail is flawlessly realized. Suspended above the city, this sky garden becomes a poetic vessel—where light, wind, materials, and human warmth resonate in harmony.
