A Soft Glow

by Wei Interior Design

Project Description

Designed as a serene retreat for an elderly couple, this home undergoes a thoughtful transformation — once a two-room layout is now a three-room arrangement, tailored for both practicality and adaptability. “Every wall should be thoughtfully designed, leaving no space blank,” the couple expressed, emphasizing their desire for a space with intricate details. With their grandchildren frequently visiting, safety is the priority. Rounded edges, stone patterns, and special coatings establish a refined yet tranquil ambiance. The gradual blending of deep tones can create a stunning visual impact. The interplay between matte and glossy finishes introduces a subtle yet striking contrast. Meanwhile, soft, diffused light gently envelops the space — imbuing it with layers of depth and sophistication.
The TV wall is a statement of understated elegance, crafted from gray plaster that evokes a weathered, oxidized look. Below, the TV cabinet subtly extends beyond the wall, visually widening the feature wall while echoing with the cabinet at the entryway to create a sense of depth. The wall behind the sofa is a large European tile in a grayish-blue hue, with its exquisite patterns reminiscent of ink paintings. Amidst the deep tones, a touch of airiness emerges — imbuing the tranquil space with a flowing, dynamic rhythm. While dark colors make a bold statement, they need to be carefully balanced with lights to prevent a room from feeling too heavy. Thoughtfully placed linear lights guide the eye, creating a rhythmic visual flow that enhances the sense of movement. Concealed within corners, beneath beams, and in the subtle gaps between surfaces, these hidden light sources offset the heaviness of the dark elements while crafting an intricate interplay of light and shadow.
A low beam spans above the corridor leading to the private zones. The walls are painted with Russian plaster. Their hand-painted surfaces exude a sense of warmth, ensuring a sense of continuity and harmony. The textured plaster continues to imbue the bedroom with depth and character. A sleek black titanium-plated trim runs along the headboard, creating dynamic tension within a space and enhancing the perception of height. Meanwhile, the walk-in closet features a gray glass door paired with soft lighting, allowing the interplay of light and shadow to create a tranquil and relaxing sleep environment.
